This message is to inform you that one middle school student and two high school students have tested positive for COVID-19. Two of the cases are directly connected and the last day of in-person attendance for any of the students was November 12. The students have been placed into isolation and will not return to school until they have been released by the Monroe County Department of Public Health. No further action by the district was recommended. The cases from today have been submitted into the COVID-19 School Report Card database.
This week we tested 99 CRS staff and students. Of those tested, only one case was positive. We continue to abide by the NYS Department of Health guidelines and we are regularly receiving updates regarding the requirements. Recently, it was announced that schools in the yellow zone are required to test 20 percent of the in-school population over a two-week period (a change from weekly). This means that we have met our testing obligation. Therefore, we do not anticipate testing any students or staff during the week of November 23. We are currently on hold, and will be ready to begin testing again the week of November 30, should we be directed to do so.
As you are probably aware our school district and others across the county are keeping the community spread at a minimum due to our social distancing practices, along with frequent handwashing and the use of facemasks. If you are interested in accessing a map of COVID-19 community spread, it can be accessed at the following link: https://forward.ny.gov/.
An announcement was made earlier this week regarding winter season athletics. Bowling and Boys Varsity/JV swimming and diving will begin on December 7. Modified swimming and diving will begin on December 14. We are waiting on further guidance specific to Indoor Track & Field, and will announce a start date should we be able to begin. Currently, the following athletic teams are on pause - basketball, cheerleading, ice hockey and wrestling.
