Good afternoon, this is Superintendent Lori Orologio calling all families in the Churchville-Chili School District on Friday, March 26, with an informational message.
I would like to begin by letting you know that the April 30 Superintendent's Conference day has been replaced with an instructional day for all students, both in person and remote. The Board of Education also approved the 2021-22 school calendar which has been posted on the district website. For our families with seniors, it is anticipated that Principal Wilson will be sending a communication during the week of April 5th which will outline timeframes for upcoming senior activities, along with tentative plans for graduation while adhering to social distancing guidelines.
We have developed and prepared a fourth quarter plan to increase in-person instruction based upon new guidance from the CDC and the need for our students to consistently engage in learning in a safe school setting with their peers and teachers, which will positively impact their social emotional well-being, as well. The current roadblock is the lack of approval for reduced social distancing by the NYS Department of Health.
While we work collaboratively with Monroe County Department of Health Commissioner Mendoza, it is important to note that he is not able to independently support our plans or advocate for a full reopening based upon CDC guidance on our behalf without the NYS Commissioner’s support.
We respectfully request that you join us in urging the NYS Department of Health Commissioner Howard Zucker to make a decision to support our revised fourth quarter plan to increase in-person instruction by reducing social distancing requirements and allowing two-thirds bus capacity with masking and windows open for increased ventilation. Contact information for the commissioner can be found on our Advocacy webpage, along with the impact that community COVID transmission levels have upon the reopening of our schools at the elementary and secondary levels outlined by the CDC.
Thank you for your continued patience, partnership and support.
