For the past nine holiday seasons, students from the high school’s Dance II and Dance Excel classes have been bringing joy and the fun of dance to elementary school students. This year, they brought their dance outreach program to second-graders and kindergarteners at Churchville Elementary during their physical education classes.
“All the students, young and old, enjoy the experience,” said dance instructor Janelle Hernandez. “The high school dancers love performing for such an excited audience. They like interacting with the little ones. Many of them are excellent teachers and really enjoy using their talents to inspire. The younger students have fun and learn that they can be active and stay fit in many different ways. When they get to high school, they can choose healthy alternatives like dance or yoga, in addition to standard athletics.”
Churchville-Chili’s High School dance program gives interested students an opportunity to explore a wide array of dance genres and styles, along with dance history and choreography. The annual student dance recital features solos, duets and class routines from many talented young dancers. This year, the performance will be June 3, 2020 at 7 p.m. in the C-CPAC. It is free and open for the community.
