Good afternoon this is Carl Christensen calling all families and staff in the Churchville-Chili middle school on Thursday, June 16. I am calling as a follow-up to the superintendent's message from yesterday. As a reminder, the goal for this week was two-fold. One to bring awareness and education related to the Juneteenth Federal Holiday. Second, to promote an atmosphere of acceptance and inclusivity. The middle school equity team, which is comprised of students and staff, spent a lot of time creating informational materials for classroom use leading up to Juneteenth. I wanted to share tomorrow’s plans and resources we have in place for our second day of education and celebration of Juneteenth.
Students will be participating in activities during the first hour of their day. Specific instructional materials were selected by teachers at each grade level. The complete list of educational resources being used at various grade levels are posted on the Juneteenth page of our district website.
Please know, that due to safety concerns, we will not be hosting a unity walk for our students as previously planned. While we understand that students may be disappointed, we are hopeful that the activities we have planned in their classrooms will support the work of our equity committee and enhance our efforts to create a more inclusive environment. While there are rumors about a walkout being planned for tomorrow, the district cannot condone such an activity, as it potentially creates a safety risk for participants. I appreciate all of the feedback from parents and students in supporting our goal of providing a safe and secure environment where all students feel welcomed, valued and supported. Thank you for your time. Have a good evening.
