A Message from our Director of Fine Arts
Fourth graders have the opportunity to continue participation in Chorus as well as begin studying an instrument in Orchestra or Band. It’s always an exciting time as we support your student musician through the process of selecting an instrument and establishing, what we hope will be, a lifelong relationship with it.
Not only does participation in music ensembles play an integral role in enhancing your student’s music education, but it has also proven to be a wonderful way to enrich their overall educational experience and provide meaningful avenues for them to connect to the school community. We have seen firsthand that Churchville-Chili students who are involved in the arts are more engaged in the life of the school, have better relationships with teachers and peers, develop strong skills in organization and time management, and learn at a higher level of proficiency in all subject areas.

All fourth grade ensembles will meet either Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday morning from 8:25-9:05 prior to the beginning of the regular school day allowing students that choose to participate to have a full year experience in both Chorus and either Band or Orchestra. Students will have the option of either riding the MS bus run in the morning and then being shuttled to their school for their morning rehearsal or have a parent drop them off directly to their school at 8:20. We are excited to, once again, offer this opportunity to our students and families!
We hope that you will encourage your student to participate in the Orchestra or Band and Chorus and take advantage of all the educational opportunities that the Churchville-Chili CSD has to offer. If you have any questions regarding the musical opportunities available as a fourth grader, please don’t hesitate to contact me or your student’s music teacher.
Sincerely,
Mr. Jeff Smith

FAQ about 4th Grade Morning Ensembles:
- How does my child get to morning ensembles?
Students can either be dropped off by a parent/guardian at 8:20am on the morning of their ensemble OR students can ride the middle school bus.
-
Will my child be sitting with middle school students?
While they are on the same bus, there is a section in the front of the bus for the elementary students to sit in. Students may be partnered up with a 5th grade bus buddy but will still sit at the front.
- How does my child get from the middle school to the elementary school?
Once students arrive at the middle school, they will get off that bus and get on another bus that will take them to their elementary school. There will be an adult at the middle school each morning to assist with this process.
- How does my child get into the school in the morning?
Office staff will be in the building to let the students in. An adult
will be there to wait with them until the ensemble begins.
- My child is a safety patrol, will they be able to get to their post that morning?
Yes. Safety patrol is allowed to leave a few minutes early to get to their post.
- How many times does the ensemble meet in a week?
Chorus, band and orchestra meet once a week before school. Band and orchestra students will have an additional lesson during the school day in a small group setting.
- Will my child’s band/orchestra lesson be the same time every week?
No. The day of the week your child has their lesson will be the same. The time is on a rotating schedule so your child will not be pulled at the same time every week. Each quarter, your child will get a new schedule detailing the dates and times of lessons and rehearsals.
If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s ensemble instructor.
