Dance

The Department of Fine Arts and the Department of Health, PE & Athletics work collaboratively in support of our Dance Program. Students enrolled in dance are taught in a professional studio located on campus in the Senior High School. Dance students are provided various opportunities to perform including a dance recital at year’s end. Enrollment and participation meet the New York State requirements for Physical Education Credit.

5-Unit Arts Sequence

Students may substitute a 5-unit sequence in the Arts for the 3-unit foreign language requirement to earn a Regents diploma-advanced designation. See your school counselor for more information. SHS Intro to Dance/Dance II

Classes Offered

Intro to Dance

This class is open to all students in grades 9-12. Students do not need previous experience in dance to take Intro to Dance. Students will demonstrate fundamental movements in a fun, safe and positive environment. This class will fulfill a 1/2 credit toward their Physical Education requirement. This course will meet on an every other day rotation for the entire school year and will take the place of the students' regular physical education class.

Units:
Intro to Movement, Mind Body Connection, Yoga, Decade Dance, ZUMBA, World Dance, Ballroom Dance & Hip-Hop

Dance II

Students in grades 11 and 12 will have the opportunity to select Dance II in order to fulfill a 1/2 credit to stay on track for their graduation requirements in Physical Education. Students will create and teach a dance routine to students at Churchville Elementary School.

Students will also learn a choreographed routine to perform at the Churchville Chili Dance Recital.

(Intro to Dance is a prerequisite for this class)

Dance Excel

Students with more than 5 years of dance experience in grades 9-12 can take this course. This highly competitive class will be expected to work closely together to choreograph routines and perform in school pep-rallies, conference days and dance recital. Students will understand that collaborating and improvising with others requires achieving a balance of technique, listening, understanding and communicating.
