Fifth grade students raise over $13k for Sudan
Inspired by the story A Long Walk to Water, fifth grade students at CCMS raised money to help the water crisis in Sudan.
This spring, fifth grade students read A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park. The book, which is based on a true story, is told in alternating stories that follow two eleven-year-olds in Sudan. Nya's story is set in 2008 and follows her as she fetches water from a pond that is a two hours' walk from her home. The second child, Salva, becomes one of the "lost boys" of Sudan in 1985 and follows as he covers the African continent on foot in search of his family and a safe place to stay.
Students brought in money to build wells that will help those who currently live there and struggle with access to water, raising a total of $1367.90! Donations will go to https://www.waterforsouthsudan.org/donate.
