Opening Schools 2021-22 - Updates and Information

Newsbrief 9/17/21

Positive COVID-19 cases this week:

  • Two students at CRS

  • One student and one staff member at the Middle School

  • One student in the High School

Screening for COVID-19: New York State Department of Health is requiring school districts to implement weekly testing of a percentage of students, with parental permission, to monitor the spread of COVID-19. We will utilize the BinaxNOW COVID-19 testing kit, which takes approximately twenty minutes and includes an option of a self-administered lower nasal swab. A trained staff member will monitor and assist with the student testing and parents will be contacted with their child's results. If you would like your child(ren) to be a part of the testing process, please complete this form by Thursday, September 23.

Health attestation: If you have not already done so, the one-time health attestation for students must be completed and given to your child’s school nurse as soon as possible. For your convenience, it can also be done online by clicking this link. Every student is required to have the attestation on file for the 2021-22 school year.

Please remember, it is very important that you keep your child home if they have any symptoms of COVID-19 in an effort to limit any potential transmission or spread in school.

FAQs: As a reminder, we do have a list of frequently asked questions on our website. We encourage you to visit the page regularly as we will update the page as new questions come in. If you can’t find an answer to your question on the website, you can email us at [email protected] for assistance.

Parent awareness: And finally, there is a recent TikTok challenge called “Deviouslicks” that encourages users to damage public property, steal property, video/post the result and see who can get the ultimate damage and most likes. This is impacting our MS and SHS as we have had damage in our bathrooms, graffiti in the halls and on door signs.

We greatly appreciate any help you can provide by talking with your children about respecting our school property and reminding them that this behavior does not reflect our district goals or core beliefs. Please reinforce, “if you see something, say something.”

Thank you for all of your support in reopening school. Have a great weekend.
