We are currently seeking input from parents and community members regarding a potential lottery-based pre-kindergarten program at Churchville-Chili. Information collected in an online survey will assist us in making key decisions regarding the possibility of providing a pre-K program beginning in the fall of 2020.
Over the past several years, we have seen an increase in the need for related services, special education and family support in our primary classrooms here in our school district. In addition, our poverty rate has doubled in the past ten years, now at 33%, and many of our families are unable to obtain quality childcare or preschool experiences for their children.
A pre-K program, aligned with the New York State pre-K standards, would provide needed cognitive, emotional, social, language skills and transitional support for the four year-olds in our school district. Our students with special needs or those who require support for related services could receive those services in the school setting, which is particularly important to those with limited resources.
We are exploring the possibility of providing one a.m. and one p.m. session at each of our three elementary schools, approximately 2.5 hours per day, 5 days/week. The program would provide rich and varied early learning experiences to prepare children for success in school and ultimately laying the foundation for college and career readiness.
If you are interested in sharing your thoughts regarding the district providing a lottery-based pre-K program, please take our brief survey below by January 27, 2020.
