Welcome to Physical Education at Chestnut Ridge Elementary School. It is our goal to create a fun, safe and physically active environment to encourage our students to be lifelong movers. At CRS, we believe that students learn to move and move to learn. We believe that teaching our students the necessary skills and concepts for active participation is the foundation for health related fitness along with participation in sports, games and life-long movement activities.
During the school year, Kindergarten, First and Second grade students will have Physical Education class twice each week. Third and Fourth grade students will have Physical Education class three days each week. Be sure to check your child’s daily schedule to be informed as to when he/she has P.E. class.
New York State Physical Education Standards
All Physical Education classes at CRS incorporate the NYS Standards for Physical Education on a daily basis in lessons and units of instruction. What do students wear to Physical Education Class at CRS?
In order for your child to participate in Physical Education, he/she should be prepared by wearing sneakers that are safe and appropriate for active participation. Since students do not change for Physical Education at CRS, school clothes for Physical Education days should be comfortable and suitable for movement activity. For the safety of all students, each child must remove all extra items from their possession. These items include watches, bracelets, rings, necklaces, and hoop or dangling earrings that hang below a child’s earlobe.
