Welcome to Music!
Students in kindergarten through second grade come to music twice a week for 40 minutes. Students in third and fourth grade come once a week for 45 minutes. All third graders sing in the Third Grade Chorus and all fourth graders sing in the Fourth Grade Chorus, with concerts in the winter and spring.
Fourth grade students are invited to explore music through the study of a musical instrument. Beginning group lessons are offered in strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion instruments with band and orchestra rehearsals starting after the winter chorus concert. Please see Mrs. Osgood's teacher webpage for more details regarding instrumental music opportunities at CES.
We are excited about having a wonderful year with your children!
What do we do in music class?
We sing, dance, play musical instruments and music games, compose music, listen to music from other cultures, and learn to appreciate the importance of music in our lives. We work on basic musical concepts such as keeping a steady beat, playing with a group, music note reading, singing in tune and matching pitches, and playing instruments with good technique. We listen to all kinds of music from folk to classical to country to rock and roll.
Students in kindergarten through second grade participate in many music and movement activities which fulfill the New York state requirement for increased physical activity for children. Third graders look forward to learning to play the recorder, and fourth graders look forward to presenting their band concerts in February and June.
All music activities are adapted to suit the needs of different grade levels and students’ abilities, and all students are respected and encouraged to do their best. The music room is a place where students gain important social skills such as taking turns, sharing, working with partners, listening, and being a good role model. We learn a lot and have a great time in music class!
Please wear sneakers to music class.
