Counselors went into all 5th grade classrooms in September to do a classroom circle with all students focused on building a positive classroom community and on understanding and celebrating differences. This was a great way for us to get to know all the students better and for the students to get to know the other students in their class as well.
In October, the counselors went into all 6th grade classrooms to do a classroom lesson focused on leadership skills and how students can be a leader in their own life. We value students being engaged and reflective about their goals and choices that they make in middle school. We are excited to see all of the 6th graders again this year and help them start the year off on a great note!
In September all 7th grade students received a lesson in their FACS class by the drug and alcohol counselor focused on making positive and safe decisions based on assessing the risk of a situation. Students learned how to use critical thinking skills in order to make informed decisions and evaluate the risk associated with such a decision.
Classroom circles and lessons are part of our counseling curriculum at the middle school that we provide to all students.
