Reading This is the ABC Linking Chart that we use in the classroom. It helps the students learn the sounds that the letters make. Students will also use this linking chart when they are trying to decode (or word solve) words they are having trouble with. In guided reading I teach students a variety of strategies to help students when they come across a word they do not know. Click on the reading strategies to see how we word solve when we are reading. Retelling is an important skill and will be working on this all year long. Families can use the following link to help their student encourage retelling. Sight Words These are the 24 Kindergarten Sight Words that we will be working on throughout the year! The students are expected to be able to read, write and use all of these words correctly by the end of the year! This is a list of the Kindergarten Word Extension List. The students are not tested on these words. They are words that the students see in their reading and use in their writing. It is helpful to the students if they are familiar with these words! I will be adding more words to this list as the year goes on. Writing This is a link for Writing Paper. It is lined to help students better form their letters. This is a sheet that shows the correct Letter Formation. Use it to help your student make the correct strokes when forming letters. Good writers must make sure they do these things when they write! During the second marking period, we will be focusing our writing on non-fiction writing. Right now we are writing "reports", and we are becoming experts on the topic we are writing about. When we write like "Scientists" we must plan out our writing. Click here to see what students need to do to write like a "Scientist", and how they can stretch out words.
