To the Churchville-Chili Community:
I want to thank voters for approving the new Capital Improvement Project. The Phase III project will address safety and accessibility needs at Chestnut Ridge Elementary and Churchville Elementary Schools based on the 2010 Building Condition Survey which is preformed every five years as mandated by the state.
The Building Condition Survey reviewed facilities across the district, ranking needs based on the level of importance. The survey identified needs at Chestnut Ridge and Churchville Elementary schools that cannot be addressed as general repairs in the annual operating budget. This work will be financed by using money saved in the capital reserve fund and state aid.
Our current state aid rate will yield approximately 88.8% of every dollar spent on the project. Through prudent saving by the district, $1,830,000 of the project’s estimated $9,997,000 will be funded through the capital reserve with the rest coming through state aid. This means no local impact to the taxes paid by community members.
Just like repairs on your homes, as buildings age they need general maintenance. The items being addresses in this project go beyond everyday repairs and will address accessibility and safety needs at each building. I want to thank the community for supporting our efforts in providing facilities that offer a safe and supportive learning environment for all of our students.
Architects will now draw up plans to be submitted to the State Education Department for approval. The anticipated completion date for the Phase III Project is the fall of 2015.
Sincerely,
Dr. Pam Kissel
Superintendent of Schools
